Formula Off Road
Icelandic Championship
Blonduos July 14. 2007
The third Formula Off Road Icelandic Championship is at Blonduos in the north-west part of Iceland. The competition starts at early - at 11:00 sharp.
The 8 tracks that will be driven in each class look just about right. With only a handful of gates so the competitors won't get lost.
Eyjolfur Skulason in the Leopard has first go in the first track.
His driving lands him in 6th place overall and 5th in the unlimited class.
Daniel G. Ingimundarson in the Green Thunder.
Daniel has been showing great improvements from last year. In this track he is obviously about to roll over...
...when instead of landing on the top he manages to spin the truck around and land on the wheels - driving safely out of the situation.
Daniel is close to getting a medal and lands in 5th overall and 4th in the unlimited class.
Ragnar Robertsson in his N1 Willys.
Ragnar gets up the final difficult slope with great driving and ends up in first place in the modified street class as well as fourth place overall.
Vignir R. Vignisson is also driving Ragnar's N1 Willys for the competition - just like in Egilsstadir. This time he is allowed a little more freedom in his driving...
...as you can see in the final track. Vignir is just about through the final gate but...
...rolls over backwards. The damage is surprisingly small. Only a broken front right steering joint as well as a bent shock and a suspension bar along with the rear end of the body.
Sigurdur Thor Jonsson in the Troll. He drives well today and gets second place - both overall as well as in the unlimited class.
Sigurdur gets up the final track and through the gate - but flips his truck in the gate and rolls down the other side.
Leo Vidar Bjornsson in the Ironmaiden.
Leo ends up in 7th place overall.
Erlingur R. Klemenzson in the Raven.
Erlingur ends up in 9th place overall.
Olafur Thor Jonsson in the Fox.
Olafur doesn't make it up the final slope and looses the second place to Sigurdur Thor. Olafur ends up in third place.
Bjarki Reynisson in the Animal.
Bjarki ends up in third place in the modified street class.
Gunnar Gunnarsson in the Clown.
Gunnar's jump through the final gate is spectacular...
...both high and he seems to hover over the ground for an eternity. This driving secures Gunnar the well deserved first place as well as a trophy for best showmanship.
Gudlaugur S. Helgason in Magic Yellow.
Gudlaugur has been having problems with the steering for the most part of the day.
Gudlaugur rolls backwards in the final track and ends up in last place today.
The street legal class is developing nicely.
Baldur Palsson in the 1966 Willys C5 with the 350 Chevy engine has a great day and gets first place.
Petur Vidarsson in the 1975 Range Rover that is gradually being cut to pieces ends up in third place.
Steingrimur Bjarnason in his 1964 Willys is the only one getting stuck in this pit. TV reporter Birgir Thor Bragason uses the opportunity to get a close up of the disappointed driver!
Steingrimur ends up in second place.
Hlynur B. Sigurdsson in his 1991 Toyota Hilux Xtracap pickup ends up in last place. With only six cylinders the lack of power is obviously the main problem.

Videos from the N1 Willys truck in the same track with two different drivers. They are shot with an onboard camcorder. The first makes it up by using full nitro injection and the second one is a little bit too shy on petal and takes a back roll.
