4x4 Sticking Tracks
2005
Saturday - Sunday
Early morning these three horsemen come along. They are searching for sheep that could be in the area. They haven't seen any yet and we tell them we haven't seen any either.
Temperature is now lower but the clouds are disappearing.
Boys on the trailer throw out sticks every 100 meters or so. Crossing the river riding the trailer is not a bad bonus.
In the older times travelers used these stone structures to lead the way.
Close to Thjorsa the track passes through an area with more greenness and therefore more mud in the track.
Thorsa is the longest river in Iceland and quite wide as you can see. Crossing it at Soleyjarhofdi is possible when it is not too deep. We cross first since we have done this before.
Kalli is now driving the Land Cruiser.
Maggi on his Jeep with the 35 inch summer tires is the lowest raised trucks and makes a big wave as he crosses.
The river bank is fairly steep at the east side and some have to back down and try again.
Grand view to the Hofsjokull ice-cap when the Trooper is crossing.
After all the work is done it is a good idea to see some little known places. Dynkur is a waterfall downstream in the same Thjorsa we crossed before. It falls in two steps into this great big canyon.
Getting close to the waterfall can only be done by walking - but as you can imagine it is worth it!
As the day nears its end we are greeted with these amazing colors of the sunset.
This weekend has turned out great - thanks to all for a memorable trip.
