Why No Chains In Iceland?

1st I have to say, I love where you live and what you do and are envious to a high point...maybe before I croke I'll be able to be in an environment such as yours...
I have a 95 Wrangler I've been working on, I'd like to send you pics to give me your opinion, but outside of this, I am curious as to something with the guys going out there, no one uses chains there, is this due to using lockers front and back? I'm aware of the pressure loss and why but why not chains or cables?
I hope I can learn from you guys to make what I have like your trucks there, I especially love the defenders.
Thanks.

Thanks Evan!
You can send me pictures of the Wrangler through the readers rigs page:

I get a LOT of nice pictures through there. Just remember that the amount is such that I am unable to get them all up 🙂
(The more you write and the more interesting the truck the more likely it will get in).
There are a few reasons we don't use chains. For one - The big tires tend to fill out all available space. Another thing is that we are looking for floating ON the surface as much as possible. The third might be that the aired down tires take less space and the chains would be loose. Finally with the rugged treading there just seems to be little to gain!
All the best,
Thrandur

Response....

I understand now, this does make sense, a lack of environmental exposure like yours made that unforeseen for me....I just got the jeep last summer stock and have been putting my hands on it since, I have a long way to go to be like you guys, but time and $ I guess will take care of that.
Thanks for the response, I like learning, and for you guys there doing the tours for a job!!!...my hat goes off to you, nothing better!!!
