At the end of April, one of the most important off road clubs in Romania organized an unlikely weekend with an interesting humanitarian action. Club 4x4 Baia Mare chose the last weekend of the month to give back to Mother Nature by planting ten thousand trees in two forests in the northern part of the country.
Together with the Advisio Agency, the off road club set up a non profit event consisting of a whole weekend of eco-education and tree planting. As much as possible, the club tried to cover the costs of all the volunteers petrol and accommodation, while also providing the tools for all the activities.
Alongside all the activities and off road that took place, a small prize draw was organized, which meant that two lucky volunteers would receive a price form the organizers consisting of official club gear as well as an Intek CB radio while the second pack would consist of the same club gear but a Maxon CB radio and a Midland magnetic antenna, this time.
At the end of the first day, the 120 volunteers that answered the call for help planted a number of four thousand trees after participating at the What you breathe matters seminar, organized by the forest rangers. The second day of the action saw 74 volunteers, upping the number of trees planted to a total of 10.800, more than a quarter of the required amount needing to be planted by the rangers each year. Considering that the trees will survive in a proportion of 85%, the off road weekend planned by the Baia Mare off road club will have helped the forest with more than 9000 new trees.
We take this opportunity to congratulate the off road club for their initiative and hope that such events will take place more often, throughout Europe.
