North European and Icelandic Championship
The second Formula Off Road championship is also the first in the North European (NEZ) competition. Hella is just west of the now famous volcano Eyjafjallajokull that is just now finished its eruption. Tomorrow we´ll see another competition in the series at the same location.
The competition is delayed for about an hour because of some computer issues. Aside from that the day looks promising.
The Street Legal Class is gradually getting more exciting.
Old timer Sigurdur Thor Jonsson has moved into the street legals. In one of the first tracks he rolls it over two and a half time.
Even though he shows some nice driving the result is only the 6th place.
Magnus Sigurdsson is convinced that a 4 cylinder engine can work just fine. And the Suzuki shows some great promise, but loosing both rear axels cuts his efforts short for the day.
Hlynur B. Sigurdsson in the Toyota Hilux does well. The swamp driving is too much today and he ends up in fourth place.
Haukur Thorvaldsson in his Silver Power has a great day and shows fantastic driving that lands him as the the first place winner.
Steingrimur Bjarnason in his N1 Willys.
Gudni Jonsson is driving the Puddle Trowsers against his brother Sigurdur Thor.
He seems to be doing better than his brother and ends up in third place.
Hafsteinn Thorvaldsson driving the Turf has a great day ...
...and ends up in second place.
Daniel G. Ingimundarson in the Green Thunder.
Jon Orn Ingileifsson in the Choirboy.
The Choirboy looks just like a big spider, crawling its way to the top in challenge after challenge.
Jon Orn shows he is the best driver today and wins the first place.
Benedikt Sigfusson on Hlunkurinn.
Benedikt uses special 44 inch Dick Cepec tires with welded paddles to use on the river and in the swamp.
Johann Runarsson flying in the Clown at the start of the second track.
Getting to the top can prove tricky...
...and Johann flips the truck over backwards and lands on all four wheels without any apparent damage!
Off road stunt of the day!
Johann Runarsson floting the Clown on the river in the the fifth track.
Robert Agnarsson in Heimasaetan.
Leo Vidar Bjornsson on the Iron Maiden still using the Super Swamper tires. They don't work as well in the sand though as the paddle tires.
Bjorn Bragi Saevarsson on the Tremor has a good day and ends up in third place.
Gulli driving the Magic Yellow.
Gulli driving on the river.
The modified street class is driven in the same tracks as the unlimited class.
Johann Birgir Magnusson driving his Fordson up the second track. He ends up in third place.
Bjarki Reynisson driving the Animal.
Bjarki shows some good confidence and wins the class.
Gudbjorn Grimsson driving the N1 Willys.
Gudbjorn floates most of the river but ends up sinking it close to the end.
