In the last article I reviewed the first days in the history of the unconventional car rental Isak ltd. in Iceland, featuring solemnly modified Land Rover Defenders. There I also showed some pictures of the first 110s to be converted, before and after.
The company Isak Ltd. was established for to bring an innovation in the Icelandic tourism: Super-Defenders for self drive on convoy tours or by individual rental. A unique new tourism-approach throughout the world, which gives e.g. activities on incentive tours a new dimension!
The company Isak Ltd. was founded so to say under the midnight sun, on the day of Summer Solstice2007, June 21st. The German Tour Agency IPT (Island Pro Travel) was the first one to use our services in the beginning of the year 2008, and on January 10th the first Isak-Tour was due.
Interestingly enough, our first customers were of the automobile branch, actually from the car tuning: owners and suppliers of the company Abt Sportsline in Kempten, Germany. This company tunes all makes of the Volkswagen family, they tune VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat, and participate in the DTM racing, Deutsche Touren Meisterschaften, see http://www.abt-sportsline.com/. Their top driver Christian Abt was among us, and as we made our first off road experience in the twilight of the slow starting morning in middle of January, Christian was the only one that went off the track, onto some thin ice that broke through. His ISAK got stuck as the left front wheel vanished into the mud at the bottom of the river we were crossing. That was quite a fun, some action!
The second day in a great weather we drove to the famous sights Geysir and Gullfoss, but on unconventional trails of course or "off course"- crossing deep rivers and heavy snow fields and driving to the black sand shore at the ocean too.
The Abt-Team made a stop for three nights, and in the evening, where we were staying two nights at the great facility of www.frostandfire.is 40 kms outside of Reykjavik, we had a lot of playing the guitar and singing, dipping into the geothermal hot pools and the natural sauna or cooling off in the river flowing by. -A real good start of our enterprise.
