Hybrid Full Size Jeep 1976 Cherokee
and
1975 J20 Known as Crom.
The frame, 360 A.M.C. motor fueled by propane, T18 tranny , seats, and front clip minus the fenders are from the 1976 Cherokee. The axles (3.73 gears) and cab are from the 1975 J 20. The twin sticked Dana 20 is from a Scout. The front fenders are M 715 and the rear are Allis Chalmers tractor. The tires are 37 X 12.50 X 16.5 Humvee the wheels are stock Fords the roll bar is 2 inch structural pipe.
The exhaust is dual 3 inch into a single 3,5 inch to the Dyno max muffler set as high up in the frame as we could get it to avoid rocks and dumps out to the passenger side rear.
Future we are going to switch to a 727 auto tranny and a 203/205 doubler to a HP Ford Dana 60 in the front and a 14 bolt with a Detroit locker in the rear. The rear frame will bobbed to the rear spring hanger a new combo cross member/bumper will be fabbed up. The frame will be boxed and a front bumper with winch mount will be added. Then we will paint it Allis Chalmers Orange
We do rock crawling, mud bogging trail riding.
Crom has remarkable good road manners. There is no sway bar or steering stabilizer yet you can cruise down the road at 75 MPH with a weeks camping equipment in the trailer and you only need two finger to maintain your lane. One problem we have run into is we put the exhaust so high up that the heat inside the cab is intolerable we added some deflectors and they helped a little. Crom was built with a lot of help from my friend Craig who's 1985 Chevrolet M1008 K30 4WD "Piranha" also appears on this web site.
I wish to thank the guys at www.ifsja.org and www.alaska4x4network.com where pictures of the build can be seen for the inspiration to build something a bit different.
