Lost Pines Log Pull - 4x4 Off-Road - Burned Forest Challenge

by Jamaica Morz
(Bastrop, Texas, USA)

I wanted to let you know about an inagural 4x4 event we are having to benefit families who lost their homes in the Labor Day wildfires in Bastrop County, TX. I am a individual property owner in the Lost Pines, and eight months ago we lost our home in the largest wildfire in TX history, in which nearly 1700 homes were destroyed. Like many Lost Pines landowners we are in a mess of a situation regarding the dead standing timber. It is important to my husband and I to utilize our timber resources in an effort to reestablish our home. We have searched only to find few options for help to clear and utilize the timber.

Let's haul some logs!

However, we are currently working with a grassroots organization, Logs to Lumber, that has made an arrangement with a sawmill in Huntsville that will take our timber in exchange for milled lumber to rebuild fire destroyed homes. We see this as a win-win solution to the situation our community faces and estimate our land could yield enough lumber to frame out a dozen homes.

We are making efforts to increase the productivity of this impromptu logging operation and assist Logs to Lumber in their important mission. We are planning a 4x4 Off-Road benefit Memorial Day weekend to help us harvest the logs from the forest. We are inviting 4x4's to participate and in doing so they will help rebuild fire destroyed homes.

Because of Vol. FF like you...
by: Jamaica

The size and devestation of this fire is now listed as the 3rd largest property destroying wildfire in the nations history. Because of the excellent work of our volunteer firefighters in Bastrop County, amazingly there were only two casualties. Thank you for your service!
