My parents will be giving me their old Nissan x-trial and I will be doing every thing to make it mean and go hard so it stands out from the crowd. The local 4WD shop says it can be raised 7" with out cutting the independent suspension and I have found a place in Queensland which makes bullbars for it. It will have all the usual stuff like winch snorkel arial light side rails and side steps pretty much any thing u can think of.
I go wheeling up the escapement in Wollongong and any where there is a track. Mainly fire trails. The terrain is rocky with lots of mud but sand in other places.
Every one else is so lucky with what conversions they are aloud to do to the cars and still be able to register them. Here in Australia they are so strict. Here are some of the rules:
Lowering or Raising Vehicles.
The limit on the amount by which a vehicle can be raised or lowered is that the clearance between the suspension bump-stops cannot be `altered by more than 1/3 of that specified by the manufacturer'. In addition, coil springs may not be cut.
Wheels and Tyres.
Largest allowed rim increase is 25mm (1") larger than the widest wheel that the manufacturer offers for the vehicle. Tyres must be appropriate to the rims and the load and speed rating must equal or better the manufacturer's specifications. Rim diameter can be increased by 50mm (2") but the overall tyre diameter cannot be increased by more than 15mm. The track can be increased by up to 25mm, but not on cars with front-wheel drive and McPherson struts, nor with diagonally split brake systems. The top of the vehicle must not be higher than 2m tall
