Driving on sand, an experience which includes practicing of sliding / drifting/ and over steering on sand tracks - keep off brakes to avoid sinking in the sand; lightweight facilitates the drive.
Attractions of the Rajas than 4 Wheel Drive and Jeep Safari:

Its an intense experience for those of us more used to the local super market or green grocers & the constant clam our of your attention is exhausting retreat relative quiet of the airport haul your bags with proper briefing on the road & route.
ON a chilly morning in the first week of November - February, rest and recreation on the sandy track is perhaps the last thing on mind while participating “Desert Craft” Seasoning couldn't have been better through the laps of sand dunes of Bikaner as we were on adequate powered diesel operated 4x4 Mahindra Jeeps. Or for that matter it could not have been any worse for a city dweller like me who encounters bumps only in the form of speed-breakers and potholes on the road. Soon we start halting to select low ratio 4 wheel drive & turning of from the metal led road with transmission shuffling power to the possible wheel having grip & adieu tarmac other than regular camel cart bullock cart crossing enroute suicidal mini buses drivers & the tractors are our main companions to keep us on toes & the experiences to be now gains of driving in the wilderness the virtually barren countryside with enroute small pockets of civilization crossing with folks in the fields there lifeblood.
The course, terrain and the challenge was awesome and the best the motor sport and adventure lover could have asked for. All the participants had a taste of the “dessert”, even before the main course was served up. A few minutes after ignition key throttled the engine, a virtual vehicle melee occurred as one vehicle after the other came unstuck in the first wave of sandy tracks. Next few days cannot resist kicking the tail wide on dusty hairpin bends Yee & indeed Ha rubber smelled of the heat screeching through the sand as maneuvering the steering on the loose track sharp edge can lead the machine skidding at 80 Kms / Hr to some time 6 Fts side ways Graduating to cautious & understanding little serious homework approaching obstacles the track roller coaster front jeep scamper down with no difficulties, my turn to point down into the abyss & hold my breadth am embarrassed latter realize for feeling worried first time as the gravity was very much in control the whole way downhill but not the last perception of upgrading the desert craft art ,ah no time to feel smug the convoys heads of the dirt track time to chase the next one as am in middle thus have to show the track to my back chasers ! Swallow dust habit as the convoy stretches to 2 Km to keep in between distance & visibility from top of a hill caravan envelops like am brigade movement of desert storm all this time the suspension seems more capable of devouring the terrain Slow down the pace to avoid scaring the animals & endangering the children and the water pot balanced on the heads of the ladies that will quench the thirst & simultaneously we are in this wonderland, the folks who have come out to participate in the procession of passing armored brigade with mixtures of amusements & incredulity the number of village crossing folks scrape a living from subsistence farming of monsoon, residences made of stones / mud the life here has remained unchanged for centuries.
Every participant — old or young, serious or relaxed — flexed their muscles, managing the route which was generously peppered with uphill ascents (some are more than 45 degree steep) and downhill descents on sand dunes, long stretches of sandy tracks and yes, the occasional rocky terrain.
It was an even fight for supremacy between the vehicle and the route just before the convoy halted for a regroup at the (Karni Mata Rat temple) Deshnoke not in competition here to measure the height of the sand dunes to other destinations but for few was a dangerous mix of uphill climbs and downhill descents on sand dunes. It was with a huge sense of relief, therefore, when the convoy regrouped at camp. A non-competitive event and is essentially a fun outing for participants, it demands great deal of driving skill as was discovered by the driver of a jeep who broke the front axle of his vehicle when the steering wheel suddenly turned in the loose sand. It was also class in its own, a mix of fun, danger, a test of driving skill and determination to conquer.
The last pale fingers of day light are ebbing away the skyline of the far from the madding crowd fades in backdrop the silhouettes replaced by the safari camp, the sparkling lights of the camp fire dance of the chilled desert sand, the haunting folk music in the distance taps the leg muscles had to imagine being further removed from the routines of every day life.
Seduced for next few days all over again by the combination of grunt, noise, & courtesy of mother nature landscapes and the rich heritage & colorful culture every corner second leg onwards of the route unfolds on to another amazing sight began almost immediately with the participants having to skillfully negotiate a steep uphill sand dune with loose sand and ditches. So vehicles cautiously drove over the dune. But the fun had just begun. A steep and long winding downhill dune came up on the drivers and vehicles slowly drove their way downwards, even as fingers stayed crossed and hearts caught in a fear knot. However the participants could not resist waiting for a fraction and enjoying the excellent panorama the desert had to offer.
Machines are good tested, reliability, power, ruggedness, as they had to operate in one of the most difficult driving conditions. It was perhaps heartening for the steering managers to see that most of their vehicles have performed at optimum level in relation to the driving conditions. And that too across all possible topography challenge the top-of-the line beautiful landscapes and attracted to the flora & fauna.
The Escape - at desert craft truly was adventure sport at its very best! Despite the stiff challenges posed by the course, the drive was well appreciated by one and all, which was manifested in the joy the participants felt while completing the Escape. You could see a sense of camaraderie amongst all participants as they eagerly discussed the rigors of the route amid a sense of achievement at having conquered the wild.
I cannot imagine a better way to know real Rajas than covering places like Pushkar, wild cat tiger sanctuary at Ranthambore, blend of the drive through the unbeaten track in day & latter part of evening every day spent in heritage palaces, forts (Khimsar), the Salt bed drive through the Sambhar lake, Maharaja Style Luxury camping (Osiyan) not to forget a night in Bivouacs (Mukam), golden glow bending with yellow Sand stone Sun set at Jaisalmer cenotaphs, The Epitome of love TajMahal stands apart we relax under the stars & we approach the mechanical back up team having an aura of confidence about them the kind of blokes you trust instantly & implicitly when they start reminiscing about digging holes under jeep to change the clutch & under moonlight they bolt & unbolt the screws ,what these guys do not know about driving in the wilderness is probably not worth knowing .
